3D Models for Calex Replacement Parts
We provide 3D models of replacement parts for various Calex products. This allows you to make certain parts yourself, or have them made, when you need a replacement part.
The available models can be downloaded as a file suitable for use with a 3D printer.
How can I have a part printed?
Do you have a 3D printer? If so, you can download the available 3D model and print the part yourself..
If you don't have a 3D printer, you can, for example, have the model printed by a friend, family member, or acquaintance who has a 3D printer. There are also various online 3D printing services where you can upload the file and have the part printed and delivered to your home for a fee..
Which filament should I use?
The right filament depends on the part and where it will be used. A part intended for indoor use is exposed to different conditions than, for example, a mounting bracket for a smart doorbell or a mounting plate for an outdoor light.
PLA – primarily for indoor use
PLA is easy to print and is therefore suitable for many parts used indoors.
Benefits:
- Easy to print
- Good dimensional stability and a neat finish
- Widely available
- Relatively inexpensive
Disadvantages:
- Limited resistance to higher temperatures
- Less suitable for prolonged exposure to sunlight and the elements
- May warp over time when the part gets hot
For parts that are permanently installed outdoors, we therefore generally do not recommend PLA.
PETG – a good choice for many outdoor applications
PETG is stronger and more resistant to moisture and higher temperatures than PLA. This makes PETG a good and relatively easy-to-print choice for many Calex replacement parts used outdoors.
Consider, for example, a mounting bracket for a Smart Doorbell.
Benefits:
- Good mechanical strength
- Highly resistant to moisture
- More resistant to higher temperatures than PLA
- Relatively easy to print
- Suitable for many indoor and outdoor applications
Disadvantages:
- You may experience more of what is known as "stringing" during printing
- Less UV- and weather-resistant than some filaments specifically designed for outdoor use
- May deform slightly under prolonged mechanical stress
For most standard outdoor applications, PETG is a good choice.
ASA – recommended for long-term outdoor use
ASA is an excellent choice for parts that are permanently installed outdoors and are exposed to sunlight, rain, and temperature fluctuations over long periods of time.
Consider, for example, a mounting plate for an outdoor Smart lamp.
Benefits:
- Good UV resistance
- Highly resistant to various weather conditions
- Good temperature and mechanical resistance
- Suitable for long-term outdoor use
Disadvantages:
- Harder to print than PLA or PETG
- Higher printing temperatures are required
- Risk of warping during printing
- A closed 3D printer (enclosure) is generally recommended
- Good ventilation is important during printing
For users with sufficient 3D printing experience and a suitable printer, ASA is generally the better choice for parts that will be used outdoors on a permanent basis.
Our General Material Recommendations
As a general guideline, we recommend:
- Indoor use: PLA of PETG
- Out of Service: PETG
- Permanently out of service with significant exposure to sunlight and the elements: preferably ASA
Please note the following regarding parts intended for outdoor use
A 3D-printed part may have different properties than the original part. Its strength and lifespan depend, among other things, on the filament used, the quality of the material, the print orientation, layer adhesion, wall thickness, infill, and the settings of the 3D printer used..
For components used outdoors, UV radiation, moisture, temperature fluctuations, and mechanical stress must also be taken into account.
Therefore, always inspect a printed part carefully before installing it, and check it regularly after installation for damage, cracks, or warping.
Available 3D Models
On the following pages, you'll find the Calex products for which a 3D model is currently available. For each part, we specify which product it is intended for, and you'll find the corresponding file available for download.
Where necessary, we provide additional information for the relevant section, such as the recommended filament, the print orientation, and any specific points to note.
Calex provides the 3D models as an additional service. The user is responsible for printing the parts and selecting the material, printer, and print settings.
