Can I select a scene with a voice command to Google Assistant

Is it possible to tell Google Assistant (in Dutch) to turn on the lamp and activate a certain scene?

    Hi Saskia,

If you have the Calex Smart app linked to your Google Home account, you can use voice commands to directly control your smart devices.

In addition, in the Google Home app you have the option to create Automations.

Here you then determine with which voice command the routine should be performed. In the routine you then determine which actions should be performed,

such as switching on lamps with the desired brightness and color.

I expect this information will help you set up your automations from Google Home.

    With kind regards,

  • Brian, thanks very much for your reply. I got as far as turning on the lamp. But the other settings such as brightness and temp don't work. Assistant keeps repeating that that functionality is not supported.

  • Hi Saskia,

Oh, sorry to hear that it doesn't quite want to work out yet. Just now I ran some tests myself with various Calex Smart products and did not experience any problem.

Have you tried refreshing the Google Home integration from the Calex Smart App? Or asking your Google speaker the following question “Hey Google, sync my devices”?

If it still does not work then I would like to receive the device-ID/Virtual-ID of your lamp in question, so I can see if we can find something in the logs. You can find this ID in the Calex Smart App at the “Device Information” screen of your smart lamp.

  • Hi Sakia,

Thank you for providing your device-id.

Based on your device-id, I see that it is a “Calex Filament Clear GLS bulb A60”.  From the logs I can see that the signals do get sent back and forth, but somewhere something is indeed going wrong in the communication between your Google Assistant and your Calex lamp.

With the same type of lamp, I also went to test here for a while and can now repeat this behavior here as well. I have immediately worked this out and forwarded it to our development department with the request to investigate this further and see how this can be solved.

As soon as more is known I will inform you.

  • Thanks so much Brian. I was just wondering whether I should try it when I change the language in my phone to English but I guess that's not it then. Look forward to the conclusions.
It's a minor issue but I just want things to work 🙂

  • Hi Saskia,

A quick update from the lighting front! We've managed to track down the unusual behavior, but it doesn’t seem to affect all types of lamps equally. Kind of like holiday lights, where some twinkle happily while others stay stoically lit.

Our investigation is ongoing, but with the festive season upon us, progress is moving a bit slower than usual. I kindly ask for a bit more patience (perhaps a cup of hot chocolate can help!). Rest assured, I’ll get back to you as soon as we have more information.

In the meantime, I wish you sparkling holidays and a brilliantly bright New Year!

    Warm regards

  • Hi Saskia,

Apologies for the delayed response! Things are taking a bit longer than anticipated. It turns out there’s a hiccup on Google’s end, causing this functionality to occasionally act up and not perform as it should.

We’re currently in deep talks with Google to get this issue straightened out on their side.

As soon as I have more info, I’ll circle back to you!

    Brian
