Thomas Edison (1847-1931) was an American scientist and the inventor of light. He was the founder of the General Electric Company and had the first commercial research laboratory built. The incandescent lamp (1879) was one of the products that ensued from this research centre and Thomas Edison is therefore known as the inventor of light.
