Start-up time is the time that the light source needs to deliver at least 60% of its total amount of light. The duration of this depends upon the type of lamp. Carbon filament lamps, halogen or LED lamps reach their lighting intensity almost immediately, as opposed to an energy-saving lamp, which needs 90 seconds on average to burn properly. If you are looking for a lamp in a store cupboard, the first three types are a better choice, because you will then have the full amount of light available straightaway.
