The Sync Box analyses the HDMI image and determines which colour is displayed based on the edges. For films with black bars at the top and bottom (cinemascope format), the box often detects black as the dominant colour, causing the LED strip to remain dark.
You can resolve this by adjusting the display area in the Calex Smart app so that the black bars fall outside the analysis area.
- Open the Calex Smart and go to the control screen of your Calex HDMI SyncBox.
- Select the 'Other' option at the bottom right.

- Move the position of the 'Upper light strip' downwards until it covers the active image area of the film.
- Test the result with a film that has black bars to check whether the top strip is now working correctly.
